Some of our clients have called us concerned about the news that immigration to the United States was suspended. We have told them not to worry because President Trump's new executive order on immigration has a duration of 60 days and refers only to people who are currently outside the United States and who are applying for legal permanent residence (green card).
It does not affect people who are applying for adjustment of status (green card) within the United States, or people who are outside the United States and who are applying for non-immigrant visas, E-1, E-2, L -1, H-1B, etc., at a US consulate, or to people who are within the United States and are applying for a change of status, E-1, E-2, L-1, H-1B, etc.
Since most visa and immigration related services are done via mail or electronically, they are currently still being processed. In fact, original signatures are no longer required so forms can be printed, signed and scanned. This process will save applicants time and money.
We believe that another result of this situation could be that the U.S. Government. might more willing to approve visas for investors who create / buy small businesses in the U.S. and generate much needed local jobs. There could even be more opportunities to buy or start businesses in the U.S. at a lower cost.
It may be a good idea to start or continue your process and get ahead of the curve, so your case is ready to be filed after this season.
